THANK YOU for being so generous and understanding. and I owe my profs who wrote recs for me, THEY ROCK.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NSF is funding my lab, so I get to keep my job.  Yay for population genetics, database management, mapping, and niche modeling.  Nay for not having a job that would let me draw at night without feeling guilty about not working/studying/writing up that senior thesis for publication...</content>

    <content type="html">There's a clear line between producing and creating art.&amp;nbsp; I&amp;nbsp;think I&amp;nbsp;have always leaned quite heavily on the producing end.&amp;nbsp; It's not that I don't want to create, but the barrier between paper and the image in my brain.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;On a side note, I&amp;nbsp;miss drawing and I&amp;nbsp;miss figure drawing in Berkeley. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;quot;The link between my brain and paper is broken, and it's time to shoot the messenger.&amp;quot; - smashmethod.</content>

    <content type="html">I&amp;nbsp;finally finished reading &lt;em&gt;Omnivore's Dilemma&lt;/em&gt;, yay!&amp;nbsp;  Waiting for people to return their library copies sucks, so I gave in and bought my own copy.&amp;nbsp; The week before Joel Salatin (a farmer mentioned in the book) gave his talk at Stanford, I asked around to see if anybody might want to go to the talk with me.&amp;nbsp; When I&amp;nbsp;mention this book to people who haven't heard of it, a few of them asked if it's about converting people to vegetarians... It's not and it's a fun read.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;I didn't know Michael Pollan was a Berkeley journalism professor until Laur brought it up, but now he sets a high bar for Berkeley prof's books.&amp;nbsp; I am gonna read&amp;nbsp;&lt;em&gt;Nature in an Age of Global Warming &lt;/em&gt;next.&amp;nbsp; It's written by Anthony Barnosky, one of my favorite profs in paleoecology ; )&lt;br /&gt;</content>

    <content type="html">Lunch break~&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For January reading, I finished &lt;em&gt;Seven Habits of Highly Effective People&lt;/em&gt; by Stephen Covey.&amp;nbsp; This is the first and only self help book I have read so far, and I think it's pretty good :)&amp;nbsp;&lt;a name="cutid1"&gt;&lt;/a&gt;Some lessons included: be proactive (focus on what you can change and take responsibility for your feelings and doings), establish your principles, and prioritize around them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm still working on&lt;em&gt; Omnivore's Dilemma&lt;/em&gt; by Michael Pollan (pg 300 or so). If you live in the United States, I'd recommend this one.&amp;nbsp; I'm not vegetarian, and I&amp;nbsp;don't think I will become one (so long it's a symbiotic relationship).&amp;nbsp; but gosh, the meat and processed food I&amp;nbsp;eat are GROSS (and unnatural and inhumane)... I&amp;nbsp;think I will cut back on those as much as I can ;__;&amp;nbsp; Lunch break is over... more on this awesome book later.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</content>

She helped me go through my hardest time in college, yet she left so suddenly.. I should have known earlier - I shouldn't have attributed her crankiness to her potential allergy or blaming her gentle bite on the fruit-smelling hand soap I used. Sorry, Chibi. (I'm not having another pet until I have trust for doctors and vets, have a huge yard, and can ensure that I will always have time for myself and my loved one). &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I hope that she rests in peace, with all her favorite food, water, beddings, and toys; but without any pain or suffering.&lt;br /&gt;Thank you, Chibi.</content>

    <content type="html">"Berkeley, the famously liberal college town in California, has taken aim at Marine recruiters, saying they are 'not welcome in our city.'&lt;br /&gt;Republican lawmakers in Washington fired back this week, threatening to take back more than $2 million of federal funding to the city as well as money designated for the University of California-Berkeley"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/02/07/berkeley.protests/index.html"&gt;http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/02/07/berkeley.protests/index.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I don't necessarily agree with the Berkeley message, but... Oppressing expression of opinions, and taking funds away from already under-fund research institution is WAAAYYY cool! It's better than addressing Washington concern directly to Berkeley local government. Attack UC Berkeley is the thing to do (even though it's not a student-run protest)! especially when none of the Republican lawmakers' sons are in the marine ;)</content>
